What is a domain name?
Okay... you might fall asleep before reading all of this as it`s a little bit boring.... but here goes...!

But... put simply... a domain name (for instance, "example.com") is your web site address. It isn`t "bought" per say, it`s "registered" for a specific time period, usually varying between 1 and 10 years.

This isn`t something we invented or just our way of doing things regarding domain names. It`s just the way the internet works as defined and governed by the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) who are basically the big chiefs in charge of domain names on the internet.

A domain name is literally just the registration and renewal of your web address (such as "yourname.com") and is separate from the "hosting" of your web site and separate from email or anything else running on your site.
