How do I setup custom delivery quotes for an item/s?

Summary

There are certain situations where you might want to give a quote for a delivery price before allowing a customer to purchase an item on your website.

Example

A customer is interested in buying an item on your website, but you want the customer to pay the exact cost for the delivery of this item. You want to know where the customer lives so you can get a direct quote from your courier and charge your customer the amount quoted.

How do I set this up just for a few items?

  1. Login to your website manager

  2. From the left hand menu, select 'Shop (items/products)' and then press 'Search for an item'

  3. Find the item in question, and click the item to modify it

  4. Press the 'Request delivery form' tab

  5. Tick the 'Display the "Request Custom Quote" link?' box

  6. Tick the ' Hide the buy button?' box

  7. Press the 'Save' button

When a customer wants to purchase an item on your website

  1. They'll press the request delivery quote button

  2. They'll fill all their information in

  3. You'll then receive an email with their information, of which you can then get a delivery quote

  4. You can then quote this to the customer and see if they're happy to go ahead with the purchase
You can then take the payment over the phone, or to get the customer to purchase the item from your website see the instructions below

When your customer is ready to proceed to purchase, and is happy with the delivery price you quote to them, you'll need to do the following -:

  1. Find the item in question on your website manager and modify it

  2. In the 'Delivery' tab, simply supply the total delivery amount quoted in the 'Surcharge' field

  3. In the 'Request delivery form' tab, untick the box for 'Hide the buy button?'

  4. Press the save button

  5. Send an email to the customer with a link to the item so they can make the purchase.

This will allow the customer to purchase the item, whilst being charged the correct delivery fee, which will be the amount that you specify in the Surcharge field.

If a sale falls through, or they just don't end up purchasing the item, you'll need to -:

  1. Find the item in question on your website manager and modify it

  2. In the 'Delivery' tab, simply remove the total delivery amount quoted

  3. In the 'Request delivery form' tab, tick the box for 'Hide the buy button?'

  4. Press the save button

This will prevent any other customers purchasing the item until they request a custom delivery form, as otherwise they'll end up paying the amount previously quoted to the customer that falled through.

How do I set this up for all my items?

If you require this to be done for all of your products, then simply -:

  1. Login to your website manager
  2. From the left hand menu, select 'Settings' and then click 'Shop settings'
  3. Click the '"Request Delivery Quote" form' tab
  4. Next to 'Enable across the entire site?' select 'Yes'
  5. Change any text as required
  6. Press the 'Update' button towards the top or bottom of the page
Next, you'll want to make sure that your delivery has no 'base charge' as when you quote a delivery and apply that quote to the item, it will add the price of the delivery of that item onto the base charge of your delivery settings.

EG, you quote an item for delivery for £15, and you have a base charge of £5. You put the £15 delivery charge into the items delivery price, but the customer is being quoted £20 instead of £15. This is becase you have a base charge of £5.

To remove the base charges from delivery bands, simply -:
  1. Login to your website manager
  2. From the left hand menu, select 'Settings' and then click 'Shop settings'
  3. Click the 'Delivery' tab
  4. Press the button under 'Delivery Options' and then edit your bands
  5. Ensure that there is only 1 band with the price of '0' to remove any pricing bands
  6. Ensure that the band doesn't have any additional fees based on postcode or country
  7. If you need assistance with this then please just get in touch

Please note that if you want this doing for all your items, when you add a new item onto your website, you'll need to do the following
  1. Make sure that in the 'Request delivery form' tab you make sure to tick the box for 'Hide the buy button?'

This will allow them to request a custom delivery quote from you, which you can then email the delivery quote to them as you require.

I'm still not sure how to set this up, can you help me?

If you are still having troubles getting a surcharge set up, then please get in touch and we'd be more than happy to help you.
